City launches live webcam of Ventura Pier, California's oldest pier
The webcam, powered by Pixelcaster, offers a continuous real-time view of the pier, beach, and Pacific Ocean, plus a daily time-lapse, and does not record or store video footage.

The City of Ventura has launched a new live webcam overlooking the historic Ventura Pier and City beach, giving residents, visitors, and viewers around the world a real-time look at one of Ventura's most treasured landmarks.
The launch. The launch comes just in time to celebrate the 154th anniversary of the original Ventura Wharf, completed on Oct. 5, 1872. The Ventura Pier is the oldest pier in California, according to the city's Oct. 5 news release.
What it shows. Looking east along the coastline, the camera provides a continuous, real-time view of the pier, beach, Pacific Ocean, and surrounding waterfront. The webcam, powered by Pixelcaster, provides a live view as well as a time-lapse of the previous day. The camera does not record or store video footage.
City reaction. 'Ventura's coastline is one of the things that makes our community so special, and this webcam gives people a chance to experience a little piece of it wherever they are,' said Mayor Dr. Jeannette Sánchez-Palacios. 'Whether you're checking the surf, catching a sunrise, planning a visit to the beach, or simply missing Ventura, you can now enjoy this incredible view in real time.'
Visit Ventura. 'For so many visitors, the Ventura Pier is the iconic landmark that instantly says Ventura,' said Marlyss Auster, President & CEO of Visit Ventura. 'Now, whether someone is planning a trip or simply dreaming about their next getaway, they can get a real-time glimpse of what's waiting for them here. We love having a new way to share Ventura with people near and far, and hopefully inspire them to think, 'I need to see that view for myself.'
The pier's history. Originally built as a commercial wharf, the Ventura Pier has evolved over more than 150 years into a community gathering place for fishing, walking, sightseeing, and enjoying the ocean. Its preservation has been supported by nonprofit Pier Into the Future, which has worked since 1993 to preserve, maintain, and enhance the landmark for future generations.
Pier Into the Future. 'Pier into the Future is thrilled at the launch of a webcam that allows the community here and afar to experience the magical vibes of the historic Ventura Pier and Pacific Ocean,' said Executive Director Jenise Wagar-Hernandez. 'We are grateful to a City that treasures the iconic Ventura Pier and are proud to walk alongside the City in ensuring it is maintained and beautified for future generations to enjoy.'
The Ventura Pier webcam is available 24 hours a day at www.cityofventura.ca.gov/LiveViews.
