Privacy policy
What we collect, why, who we share it with, and how to exercise your rights under the California Consumer Privacy Act.
Status
This policy is a first draft and will be reviewed by a California media-law attorney before launch. Pier and Point may be below the statutory threshold for CCPA/CPRA enforcement on a given metric, but we treat the framework as a baseline trust signal regardless.
What we collect
- Email address — when you subscribe to the newsletter or send us a tip.
- Server logs — IP address, user agent, and request path, retained for 30 days for security and abuse investigation.
- Analytics — privacy-respecting page-view counts. We do not sell this data, and we do not run cross-site advertising trackers.
- Tip submissions — content you send us through the tip line, retained as part of the editorial record.
What we do not do
- We do not sell, share, or rent personal information.
- We do not run third-party advertising trackers.
- We do not use cross-site tracking pixels.
- We do not condition access on consent to data sharing.
Cookies
We use first-party cookies only, for essential functions like keeping an editor signed in to the admin area. We do not use third-party advertising cookies.
Newsletter
If you subscribe to the newsletter, your email address is stored with our newsletter provider (Beehiiv) under their privacy terms. You can unsubscribe at any time from any newsletter we send. We do not retain a separate copy of subscriber emails outside the newsletter provider for marketing purposes.
Tips
When you send us a tip, the content of your tip becomes part of the editorial record. We protect tipster identity to the limits described in our sourcing policy and California’s shield law.
Your CCPA / CPRA rights
If you are a California resident, you have the right to:
- Know what personal information we have collected about you.
- Request deletion of personal information we have collected about you.
- Correct inaccurate personal information.
- Opt out of the sale or sharing of personal information (we do not sell or share).
- Limit the use of sensitive personal information (we do not use sensitive personal information beyond what is necessary to operate this site).
Email privacy@pierandpoint.com to exercise any of these rights. We will respond within the statutory window.
Children
Pier and Point is not directed at children under 13 and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13.
Changes
If we change this policy materially, we will say so at the top of this page and timestamp the change.
