How Pier and Point makes money.

Pier+ supporter memberships

$3 a month, billed via Stripe through our identity provider Clerk. Cancellable anytime from your account page. Members get an ad-free site experience and the Friday deep-dive newsletter. No content is gated to members — every article on the site is and always will be free to read for everyone.

One-time tips

Stripe, Ko-fi, PayPal, and Venmo. Tips are not tax deductible. Tipping does not change editorial decisions.

Affiliate links

Some pages on this site link to products on Amazon and other retailers. If you click an affiliate link and buy something, we receive a small commission at no extra cost to you. As of publication, the only place we have affiliate links is the recommendations page. We don’t embed affiliate links inside news stories, and we don’t accept payment for placement. We only recommend things we’d recommend anyway.

Pier and Point is a participant in the Amazon Services LLC Associates Program, an affiliate advertising program designed to provide a means for sites to earn fees by linking to Amazon.com and affiliated sites.

Display advertising

We may show display ads — either Pier+ house ads (links back to our own supporter page) or, in the future, Google AdSense units. Ad placement is decided by network; Pier and Point doesn’t hand-pick which advertisers appear. Pier+ supporters do not see ads.

Newsletter sponsorships

From time to time the daily Morning Brief newsletter may include a single, clearly labelled sponsor line at the top. Sponsorships are accepted from local Ventura businesses and are clearly identified as paid placements. Sponsors do not review or influence editorial content.

Editorial firewall

None of the revenue sources above influence which stories we cover, who we quote, or what we conclude. If we ever cover a story involving a sponsor, advertiser, or affiliate partner, that relationship will be disclosed in the article itself.
