Ventura council backs $4.2M Pierpont sand replenishment, pushes vote to May
After two hours of public comment, the Ventura City Council voted 5-2 to advance a coastal grant application before the May 11 funding deadline.

The Ventura City Council voted 5-2 Monday night to advance a $4.2 million sand replenishment project for Pierpont Beach.
The decision keeps the city in the running for a state coastal-resilience grant whose application closes May 11, according to the April 27 agenda packet.
Public comment ran two hours. Residents from Pierpont Lanes argued that erosion has narrowed the dry beach by roughly thirty feet over the last decade. Two surfers raised concerns about how the dredging would change wave behavior at C Street.
Council members Doug Halter and Liz Campos voted no. Halter said the cost-share calculation in the staff report leaves the city's general fund exposed if the state grant comes back smaller than the full request.
The final vote on the grant application returns to the council on May 11. Public comment will be open before the vote.
