Ventura opened applications for inaugural citywide Community Academy
The free eight-week program gives residents a behind-the-scenes look at city operations. Applications closed July 31.
Ventura opened applications for its first citywide Community Academy, a free eight-week program that takes residents inside city government, according to a July 13 city press release.
Participants will visit city facilities, hear directly from staff and elected officials, and learn how services are delivered and priorities are set. Sessions run Thursday evenings from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m., September 17 through November 5, at various locations across Ventura.
"This new citywide Community Academy is an opportunity to build meaningful connections between residents and their local government," City Manager Bill Ayub said in the release. "By providing a behind-the-scenes look at City operations, we hope participants leave with a greater understanding of how City services are delivered, the challenges we face, and the many ways they can stay involved in helping shape Ventura's future."
Applicants must be at least 18, live or work in Ventura, submit an application, participate in an interview, and commit to attending all eight sessions. About 30 participants will be selected.
The citywide Community Academy runs every two years, alternating with the Police Community Academy. Applications were due by Friday, July 31, at cityofventura.ca.gov/CommunityAcademy.
