Ventura opened candidate filing for four council seats in November election
Residents in Districts 1, 4, 5, and 6 could file nomination papers starting July 13 for the November 3 general election.
The candidate nomination period for Ventura's November 3 general municipal election opened Monday, July 13, according to a City of Ventura news release. Voters will elect council members in Districts 1, 4, 5, and 6.
To qualify, candidates must live in Ventura, be a registered voter, and be eligible to vote in the district they seek to represent. Nomination papers are available by appointment only through the City Clerk's Office and take about an hour to complete.
The nomination period closed at 5 p.m. on Friday, August 7. If an eligible incumbent in any district did not file by that deadline, the filing period for that district extended to Wednesday, August 12, allowing other candidates to run. City Hall is closed every other Friday, including August 7, so the Clerk's Office was available by appointment only on the final filing day.
City Clerk Michael MacDonald hosted a Candidate Information Session on Monday, July 13, at 6 p.m. in the City Council Chambers. The session covers the nomination process, required documents, election deadlines, and campaign finance rules. Attendance was not required but was encouraged for anyone considering a run.
"Strong communities begin with people who are willing to step forward and serve," MacDonald said in the release. "Every election is an opportunity for residents to shape the future of San Buenaventura."
