This is an internal policy and a first draft. Pier and Point will bind media liability coverage before publishing the first investigative or police-blotter story. The carrier and policy number below will be filled in once coverage is bound.

Coverage summary

  • Carrier: to be selected — solicit quotes from Hiscox, Axis Pro, Travelers, Chubb, Beazley.
  • Policy number: to be added on bind
  • Effective date: to be added on bind
  • Coverage limit: target $500,000–$1,000,000
  • Annual premium: target $700–$2,500 (LION Publishers group rate eligible).

AI-coverage rider — application disclosures

When applying for coverage, we explicitly disclosed:

  1. Pier and Point is an AI-assisted newsroom.
  2. We use Kimi K2.6 (via Vercel AI Gateway with Zero Data Retention) for drafting, Claude Sonnet 4.6 (with the Anthropic Citations API) for fact-checking, and WhisperX run locally for transcription.
  3. Every story is reviewed by a named human editor before publication, per our AI usage policy and editorial checklist.
  4. We do not publish AI-generated photorealism of real events, people, or places.

We obtained written confirmation from the carrier that human-edited AI-assisted content is covered under the policy. "AI-assisted" and "AI-generated" are not interchangeable in policy language; the distinction was documented in the application file.

Renewal and changes

The policy is reviewed at each renewal. If the carrier changes the AI rider language at renewal, the change is logged here and reviewed against the editorial workflow before we accept the renewal.

Triggering events

If a demand letter, lawsuit, or settlement demand arrives, the carrier is notified immediately per the policy’s notice provisions. The first internal calls are:

  1. The CNPA legal hotline.
  2. The Reporters Committee for Freedom of the Press.
  3. The carrier’s claims contact.
