Ventura police arrest suspect in Ventura Avenue stabbing

Ventura police arrested a 32-year-old Ventura man Wednesday evening in connection with a stabbing on the city's west side that hospitalized a 58-year-old Oxnard man with life-threatening injuries.
The incident occurred around 10:12 a.m. Monday, Aug. 24, in the 200 block of North Ventura Avenue. Officers found the victim suffering life-threatening injuries and transported him to Ventura County Medical Center. The department said in its initial Aug. 27 post that the victim was in stable condition.
The arrest. Detectives identified Gabriel Carrera, a 32-year-old Ventura resident, as the suspect. On Wednesday evening, Aug. 26, investigators located Carrera at the Vagabond Inn in Ventura, where he was staying, the department said in an update posted Thursday.
Once located, detectives executed a search warrant at Carrera's motel room to collect evidence related to the stabbing, according to the police statement. Carrera was arrested and booked into Ventura County Jail on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon.
No ongoing threat. Police said the suspect appears to be known to the victim, and detectives do not believe there is an ongoing threat to the community.
