Council OKs $360K emergency Ventura River bank repair at Nye Well 8
The retroactive approval covers work already underway to protect a city water well, with up to $40,000 in additional change orders authorized.

The Ventura City Council on March 10 retroactively approved a $360,000 emergency contract with Peter Lapidus Construction, Inc. for Ventura River bank repair and protection at Nye Well #8.
Council also authorized the City Manager to approve up to an additional $40,000 in change orders, with a purchase order termination date of June 30, 2026.
According to the March 10 agenda packet, council confirmed the work was 'of the urgent necessity for the preservation of life, health, or property' under Charter Section 1006(c), the city's emergency-procurement provision. That finding allows the city to retroactively approve the initial and continued expenses for construction.
Gina Dorrington, Ventura Water General Manager, brought the recommendation. Nye Well #8 is a Ventura Water facility. The agenda packet did not detail the cause of the bank damage or the specific scope of the protection work.
This vote consolidates retroactive approval of work already underway with authorization for the City Manager to oversee remaining change orders through the termination date.
No further council action on the contract is currently scheduled.
