Oxnard council puts Measure O sales tax renewal on November ballot
Voters will decide whether to extend the half-cent sales tax past its March 2029 expiration, preserving $20 million in annual city revenue.

The Oxnard City Council voted June 16, 2026, to place the renewal of Measure O on the November 3, 2026 ballot, giving residents the chance to extend the city's half-cent sales tax beyond its current expiration date in March 2029.
According to the city's June 17 press release, Measure O was originally approved by 65% of Oxnard voters in 2008 and has funded police and fire protection, 911 emergency response, street and alley maintenance, youth and senior programs, and homelessness response. If voters approve the renewal, the sales tax rate would stay at its current 9.25 percent. No tax rate increase is involved.
The release states that expiration of Measure O would cut Oxnard's annual city revenues by approximately $20 million starting in early 2029. Oxnard operates and funds its own police and fire departments serving more than 200,000 residents.
Existing accountability provisions would remain in place under the renewal, including independent annual audits, public reporting requirements, and citizen oversight of expenditures, per the press release.
The city has made election materials available for public examination through June 29, 2026, in accordance with California Elections Code requirements. The ballot title and question, the uncodified ordinance, and the City Attorney's impartial analysis are accessible through the City Clerk's Office and at oxnard.gov/ballotmeasures.
Oxnard voters will have the final say on November 3.
