Ventura County supervisors approve $3.41B balanced budget for 2026-2027
The Board of Supervisors approved a $3.41 billion balanced budget on June 15, maintaining services while investing in housing, behavioral health, and infrastructure.

The Ventura County Board of Supervisors approved a $3.41 billion balanced budget for fiscal year 2026-2027 during the county's annual budget hearing on June 15, according to the county's official news release.
The budget represents a $186 million increase, or 5.8%, over the prior year and includes $1.54 billion in General Fund appropriations. Countywide staffing remains at approximately 10,456 positions, per the release.
Chair of the Board Jeff Gorell said the budget reflects "responsible stewardship of taxpayer dollars while continuing to invest in the services Ventura County residents rely on every day." The budget was developed while accounting for legislative and funding changes affecting local governments, including healthcare workforce mandates and behavioral health reforms.
County Executive Officer Dr. Sevet Johnson said the county is "looking at efficiencies and making real data driven decisions" to maintain the general fund and provide core services. Chief Financial Officer Scott Powers said the budget positions the county to "remain responsive to future fiscal and economic challenges."
Key investments include the Lewis Road Homekey+ project in unincorporated Camarillo for supportive housing, a Mental Health Rehabilitation Center and Psychiatric Health Facility in east Ventura County, an East County Family Justice Center for victims of domestic violence and other crimes, and the Nyeland Community Center on the Oxnard Plain. The budget also funds improvements to Saticoy Park and other community recreational assets.
The budget preserves key financial reserves to help the county respond to emergencies, economic fluctuations, and future service demands.
