Ventura introduces ordinance banning sale and use of glue traps
The first reading passed at the March 10 council meeting, with a second reading and adoption scheduled for a future meeting once notice can be provided.

The Ventura City Council on March 10 introduced an ordinance that would prohibit the sale and use of glue traps within the city.
Council waived the first reading of the ordinance and directed staff to schedule the second reading and adoption for a future meeting once adequate notice could be provided.
According to the March 10 agenda packet, the ordinance adds a new Title 8, Chapter 8.60 to the San Buenaventura Municipal Code, titled 'Sale and Use of Glue Traps Prohibited.' The recommendation came from Bill Ayub, City Manager.
Beyond introducing the ordinance, council also found the regulations exempt from review under the California Environmental Quality Act, citing State CEQA Guidelines Section 15061(b)(3) and Section 15378(b)(5). The agenda packet's findings note that 'prohibiting the use or sale of glue traps within the City has no potential for resulting in direct or indirect physical changes in the environment, as other forms of rodent control remain available.'
Findings on enforcement mechanisms, fines, or which retailers might be affected were not included in the agenda packet.
A second reading and adoption are required before the ordinance takes effect; the meeting date will be set by staff.
