Oxnard council advances Fire Station No. 3 reconstruction at 150 Hill Street
Council held a public hearing on the two-story replacement station, certifying a mitigated negative declaration and moving a zone change, general plan amendment, and lot coverage tweak toward final approval.

Oxnard's City Council met June 30 to act on the reconstruction of Fire Station No. 3 at 150 Hill Street, a 0.66-acre site the city wants to replace with a new two-story station and related improvements.
The council was asked to conduct a public hearing and adopt five separate land use actions, according to the June 30 agenda for the Oxnard City Council, Oxnard Community Development Commission Successor Agency, Oxnard Financing Authority, and Oxnard Housing Authority. The package includes certifying Final Initial Study and Mitigated Negative Declaration No. 25-03, approving a General Plan Amendment under Planning and Zoning Permit No. 24-620-03, a zone change under Permit No. 24-570-02, and a zone text amendment under Permit No. 24-580-03.
The zone text amendment specifically modifies lot coverage rules in the Community Reserve district under Oxnard City Code Chapter 16, Section 16-264, per the June 30 agenda. The California Environmental Quality Act review cleared under a mitigated negative declaration rather than a full environmental impact report, with the Governor's Office of Land Use and Climate Innovation State Clearinghouse number 2025101167 listed in the agenda.
The Planning Commission had already signed off on the project, adopting resolutions 2026-05 through 2026-09 at its April 2 hearing, the agenda packet's signed resolutions show. The council's action on first reading of the two ordinances moves the project past its last legislative hurdle before a second and final reading.
Council also took up three cost-sharing agreements for Police School Resource Officer services with Oxnard Union High School District at $685,308 per year, Oxnard School District at $261,771 per year, and Hueneme Elementary School District at $137,061 per year, all on three-year terms, according to the June 30 agenda. Contact for the fire station item is Jeff Pengilley, Community Development Department, at (805) 385-8208.
The next regular Oxnard City Council meeting is scheduled for July 7, 2026, when the second reading of both ordinances could appear on the agenda.
