Ventura police ramp up fireworks enforcement ahead of July Fourth
VPD will deploy extra patrols and drones over the holiday weekend after logging 650 fireworks calls and 13 citations in 2025.

Ventura police are increasing enforcement against illegal fireworks ahead of the Fourth of July, with additional patrol officers deployed to neighborhoods with the highest volume of reports, according to the Ventura Police Department's July 1 release.
All fireworks remain illegal within Ventura city limits, including those labeled "safe and sane." In 2025, VPD responded to 650 fireworks-related calls and issued 13 citations totaling $6,056 in fines, per the release. Assistant Chief Matt Cain said illegal fireworks are "unpredictable, dangerous, and place an unnecessary burden on first responders."
VPD will use targeted patrols and drone technology to identify and document illegal fireworks activity, the release states. Officers will focus on rapid response and holding violators accountable. Fireworks-related incidents can lead to burns, structure and vegetation fires, and distress for veterans, pets, and individuals with sensory sensitivities, the department noted.
Residents should call 911 for activity in progress that poses an immediate threat. For non-emergencies, the department directs calls to 805-650-8010.
Two public events are scheduled for the holiday weekend. The Downtown Ventura Fireworks Show runs Friday, July 3 at approximately 9:00 p.m., following live music from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. on Santa Clara Street between Chestnut Street and California Street. The Pushem-Pullem Parade and Street Fair takes place Saturday, July 4, with Main Street closed between Lincoln Drive and Chestnut Street from 5:00 a.m. to noon, and Chestnut, Oak, and Palm Streets closed between Santa Clara and Main from 5:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m.
Officers will also monitor for impaired driving throughout the weekend. The department urged residents to designate a sober driver or use a rideshare service.
